Producer Prerna Arora strongly reacted to Jaya Bachchan’s remarks calling Toilet: Ek Prem Katha a failure, defending the film’s title.

The title of Akshay Kumar’s film Toilet Ek Prem Katha has disappointed veteran Bollywood actor Jaya Bachchan, who recently called it a “flop film” at a conclave. The movie’s producer, Prerna Arora, has now responded angrily to Jaya’s statement in an interview with Bollywood Hungama, saying that as a fan, it was upsetting to hear her say such things

“Let me first state that I am a huge, HUGE fan of Jayaji,” Prerna said, urging Jaya to look up the movie’s box office receipts. She is the best, in my opinion. Anytime, anyplace, I can watch Guddi, Uphaar, Abhimaan, and Mili and feel content with life. Therefore, hearing her claim that our movie Toilet: Ek Prem Katha was a failure is extremely upsetting. Ma’am, you ought to look at the box office results. Our movie made a very good profit. It was among the top five hits in 2017.

She went on to say that she would love to show Jaya Bachchan the movie and described the inspiration behind the title. “At first, we weren’t certain of the title. The word “toilet” in the title seemed dangerous, especially before “A Love Story.” However, we ultimately decided on the edgy title. I have taken chances in my role as a producer. If movies only do what is expected of them, what are they? Jaya Ma’am constantly took chances with her role decisions. She portrayed a woman who kills her violent husband in Doosri Sita. I am really proud of the movie Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. If Jaya Ma’am would allow it, I would love to show it to her.

Jaya Bachchan’s remarks
Jaya Bachchan criticized the movie’s title, saying, “Just look at the title—I would never go to see such movies.” Toilet: Is this place even called Ek Prem Katha? Is the title appropriate? Could you please let me know how many of you would watch a movie with that title? Few people in the audience raised their hands when she asked if they would watch the movie. Her first response was, “The film is a flop.”
